The Dream Journal – August 2016

Hello!

We’re enjoying a relaxing evening at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival in Hillsdale, NY. If you’ve never been to Falcon Ridge, picture several thousand folk music/dance fans and performers camped out in a series of farm meadows, with four scheduled stages of daytime and evening performances and lots more music in the tents in the meadows all night long, plus food vendors and artisans. It’s a wonderful, magical, musical place! If you can, you should check it out.

If you happen to be at Falcon Ridge Folk Festival this year, stop by the security/volunteer tent by the troll bridge Saturday afternoon, August 6th at 3pm, and hear a short set from us! The volunteers at the security tent don’t get to hear as much of the music as many of the other volunteers, so we bring the music to them.

The Serendipity Songwriter Sessions continue with our new summer dates. On Wednesday, August 10th, we are joined by guest songwriters Rorie Kelly and Aaron Tornberg at Serendipity Cafe in Maynard MA. The song topic this month, chosen by the July audience, is “The best hug/embrace you’ve ever had”. Stop by, have dinner, enjoy some tasty baked goods, listen to wonderful original music by four great songwriters, and help choose the topic for September’s musicians. The music runs 7:30-9:30pm.

If you haven’t had enough opportunities to hear new songs from prompts this month, come down to AS220 in Providence, RI on Thursday, August 11th at 7pm where we will join fellow songwriters Heather Rose, Jimmy Blaze Carello and host Jan Luby for the RISA Songwriters In The Round. Four acts, three rounds, all acoustic. The AS220 theme this month is “Insomnia”. Come see if either of us managed to get both themes into the same song, or each had to write two! The restaurant is open, so food & beverage will be available. $5 admission.

We’re very excited to be taking part in the 9th annual Boston GreenFest in downtown Boston, MA. The festival runs Friday-Sunday, August 19-21st. We will be playing two sets on Sunday, August 21st, 12:45pm at the Family Stage, and 2:15pm at the EcoSoule Stage. At this free event you can experience live music and dance performances from more than 20 countries, watch an eco-fashion show featuring local designers with models walking the runway in upcycled fashion, create a community-wide art piece, view a green film festival, test drive an electric car, listen to inspiring speakers, take a ride on a bike that generates electricity, taste healthy international cuisines, have a drink at the beer and wine garden, and much more.

The Bolton Public Library Unplugged open mike is on its summer break. We’ll see you there again in the fall!

Our CDs, Seeking, Simple Grace and Dreaming of Another Path, and our EP, Live At Roslindale, are available from us at our shows, on our website, or you can find them all at CD Baby, iTunes and most other online music stores. Seeking has been specially mastered for iTunes, which gives higher fidelity over standard iTunes recordings.

As always, you can find additional schedule information on our website, https://www.danandfaith.com. For more frequent news updates and information, check out our Facebook fan page and follow us on Twitter (@danandfaith).

During the summer, there are fun little festivals and music events everywhere. Check one out in your area, and support live local music!

The Dream Journal – July 2016

Hello!

We’re sitting on the back porch this evening, on a rare Friday night at home. A thunderstorm has just passed through, and it’s still raining rather heavily. Last night at this time, we were being deafened by bullfrogs out here. Tonight, it’s the sound of the rain on the ground, in the leaves, gurgling through the gutters. Spring through fall, our back porch is the most heavily used room in the house. It’s our haven, our retreat, our connection to nature. Do you have a place like this in your life?

We start our musical month on Sunday, July 3rd in historic Concord, MA at the Old Manse, near the Old North Bridge (where The Shot Heard ‘Round The World was fired). We’re kicking off the Old Manse summer Sunday music series, along with Mark Mandeville & Raianne Richards. Mark & Raianne are fresh off their 2016 Massachusetts Walking Tour, so we’ll be nice and not make them walk too far. You can walk, drive, bike or kayak in, enjoy a picnic lunch on the grounds, and listen to an afternoon of duo harmonies. There may be a bit of collaboration, too! We’ll play 2-4pm. Many thanks to the Trustees Of Reservations for letting us present the Sunday music series at the Old Manse this year.

Unlike previous years, the Serendipity Songwriter Sessions is not taking the summer off! On Wednesday, July 13th, join Joanne Lurgio, Lisa Bastoni and guest host Beth DeSombre at Serendipity Cafe in Maynard MA. The song topic this month, chosen by the June audience, is “Startling Yawns”. Stop by, have dinner, enjoy some tasty baked goods, listen to wonderful original music by three great songwriters, and help choose the topic for August’s musicians. The music runs 7:30-9:30pm. And do thank Beth DeSombre for hosting in July! We’ll be back in August.

We have a very busy day on Saturday, July 23rd! We start the day at the Pepperell Farmers Market in Pepperell, MA. Lots of great farms in the Pepperell area, and we love playing at this market! Come shop for dinner or pick up crafts from the crafters, and stay to listen to some nice fresh folk music. The market is 9am-1pm, we play 10a-12p.

If you can’t make it up to Pepperell to hear us in the morning on Saturday, July 23rd, hopefully you can come to Serendipity Cafe in Maynard, MA that evening from 7:30-9:30pm, where we’ll be supplying the soundtrack to your dinner, dessert and coffee. Come see how much shorter our fingers will be after 4 hours of playing in one day!

We close out the month on Long Island on Saturday, July 30th at the Huntington Folk Festival in Huntington, NY. Since 2006, the Folk Music Society of Huntington has hosted a free, day-long festival at Huntington’s Heckscher Park featuring unplugged artist showcases and song swaps during the afternoon and an evening concert with nationally touring artists on the Chapin Rainbow Stage. The festival starts at noon with 6 hours of showcases and song swaps with more than 3 dozen artists. We will be playing in the “Mass Appeal” song swap with Steven Pelland around 2pm. The afternoon activities will be followed by the evening concert with Slaid Cleaves, and Kirsten Maxwell opening.

The Bolton Public Library Unplugged open mike is on its summer break. We’ll see you there again in the fall!

There is a lot of negativity in the world today.  Our philosophy is that everyone should be kind, and try to help.  We spread that philosophy through our music.  Please listen to and share our song, The Path You Choose.

Our CDs, Seeking, Simple Grace and Dreaming of Another Path, and our EP, Live At Roslindale, are available from us at our shows, on our website, or you can find them all at CD Baby, iTunes and most other online music stores. The summer months are busy for everyone, but you should always make time for some local music.
