Hello!
We’re just back from a very busy trip to Florida. While we love New England, we have to admit it was rather nice to spend 10 days in short sleeves and sandals in the middle of January! We tried to bring a bit of the warmth back north with us, but it seems to have gotten lost somewhere around New Jersey. So we’ll just have to warm things up with a bit of music.
After its own little winter break, the Serendipity Songwriters Session is back! Come out to the Serendipity Cafe in Maynard MA on Wednesday, February 8th. We are thrilled to have Beth DeSombre and Christina Thompson Lively as our guests. Beth has been guest hosting for us on occasion this past year when we’ve been traveling, so we haven’t had much opportunity to hear her play. Chris & Meredith Thompson’s song, Clearwater, started us down the songwriting path. Our topic this month, chosen by our December audience, is “One Last Drink”. Stop by, have dinner, enjoy some tasty baked goods, listen to wonderful original music by terrific songwriters, and help choose the topic for March’s musicians. The music runs 7:30-9:30pm. Sunday, February 12th brings us back to the Common Street Spiritual Center in Natick, MA for their Sunday Circle. Each Sunday at 10:30am, the Common Street community gathers for inspiration, connection, and worship. “We also share our wisdom and encourage one another to develop spiritual practices that lead to spiritual growth, expanded consciousness, acceptance, and a more loving way of life.” We are honored to join the community and share our music as part of the circle. The Bolton Public Library Unplugged open mike at the Bolton Public Library in Bolton, MA returns from its winter break on Tuesday, February 21st. It starts with a 2-song formal first round, then we pull the chairs into a circle and jam until we’re out of songs, out of steam, or tossed out by the cleaning crew! Got a new song about love? Want to share a poem about groundhogs? Or just looking for a relaxing break from the craziness of the world? Stop by! Music starts at 7pm. Piano players — please contact us directly if you wish to play, and we’ll be sure to bring a keyboard.
The Yukon Quest is a 1000 mile dogsled race between Whitehorse, Yukon and Fairbanks, Alaska. The 34th annual Yukon Quest kicks off this Saturday, February 4th with 21 mushers and dog teams from around the world. The race takes anywhere from 9 to 15 days to complete. In honor of the determination of the teams and the dedication of the hundreds of volunteers that make the race happen, we offer our song, Yukon Quest, for free download for the duration of the race.

The December holidays are filled with energy and activity, but when the new year comes, things slow down a bit. Winter settles in and gets serious. Snow happens. Though hopefully not very much!
After our very busy December, January is a quiet month for us. Only one show, but it’s in Florida! If you’re in the Miami, FL area on Wednesday, January 25th, we would love to see you. Show is at 6pm. Contact us (via our Contact link) and we’ll put you in touch with the venue owner for reservations and the location details. Spread the word to folks who live in the area or are vacationing there! Should be plenty of seats available.
We have come a long way musically in the last 10 years, and we owe a lot of that to the WUMB Acoustic Music Camps. If you have ever dreamed of playing an acoustic instrument, learning to sing (or sing better), or writing songs, there is no better place to start than Summer Acoustic Music Week or one of the many Acoustic Music Weekends throughout the year. If you’d like to learn more about this wonderful organization and meet fellow music lovers, this coming Sunday, January 8th is the annual Reunion gathering in Groton, MA from 1-5pm. You don’t have to have attended a camp to come to Reunion! There will be guided and informal jams, food and drinks, instructors announced, and registration for all camps will be open. We’re coming up on the time of the year when the Yukon Quest is run! The Yukon Quest is a 1000 mile dogsled race from Whitehorse, Yukon Territory to Fairbanks, Alaska that starts Saturday, February 4th.
