The Dream Journal – September 2018

Hello!

We’ve just had a couple of crazy hot, muggy days. They’ve been the kind of days you don’t want to go out anywhere or do anything, days where doing anything outside is to be avoided at all cost. This evening, we watched the thunderheads massing over the mountains across the valley, signaling the coming of the cold front that will hopefully clear out the hot, sticky weather and replace it with the sort of weather one would want to have for outdoor music. And when you take a look at our schedule this month, you’ll see just how important that is.

What better way to take advantage of the return of reasonable weather than an outdoor festival? On Saturday, September 1st, the Keene Music Festival takes place in Keene, NH. This year, a new songwriters stage has been added to the festival on Emerald Street, outside the Toadstool Bookshop / Farm Cafe. The stage runs from 11am-6pm; we play 2:45-3:30pm. The other songwriters playing at this stage include Bill Wolston, Mike Bradley, Sonic Soundscape, Ross Arnold, Neptune’s Car, Picket Hill, Julie Snow and Volkert Volkersz. And there are other stages around town with still more artists playing. This will be a great day of music!

We’re back with the Serendipity Songwriters Session at Serendipity Cafe in Maynard, MA on Wednesday, September 12th. This month is the rescheduled date for the March session, which was snowed out — we figured September would be safe from such hazards! We’re joined by guest songwriters Doug Farrell and Rob Lytle. The theme, chosen by February’s audience, is “Midlife Crisis.” Join us for a great meal, tasty dessert, and an evening of amazing original music. Music runs 7:30-9:30pm.

There are few things we love more than a farmers market in late summer, and this month we’ll be at two markets back to back. On Friday, September 14th, we’re back in Hartland, VT for the Hartland Farmers Market. This is a sweet little market with good food, amazing produce, and beautiful crafts. We play 4-7pm.

The next morning, Saturday, September 15th, we’re back in Maynard, MA for the Maynard Farmers Market. In addition to good produce, there are tasty baked goods, and activities for the kids. The market runs 9am-1pm, we’ll be playing 11:15am-12:45pm. Stop by, say hello, and listen for a while!

We start the month at one festival, and we finish up our gigs for the month at another one. The Joe Davies Folk Festival is a delightful little two day event at the Soule Homestead in Middleborough, MA the weekend of September 15th and 16th, in concert with the homestead’s annual Harvest Fair. We are so pleased to be playing at the festival on Sunday, September 16th. In addition to the music, there will also be children’s activities, animals, local crafters and delicious food. We kick off the festival day at 11am on Sunday.

Our CDs Seeking and Simple Grace are available from us at our shows, on our website, or you can find them at CD Baby, iTunes and most other online music stores.

The Dream Journal – August 2018

Hello!

We just got home from our midwest tour this afternoon. We had hot weather and cold weather, beautiful clear days, a bit of rain, and a couple of wild storms. On our path back home via Canada, we even encountered a lot of smoke from wildfires in Ontario. We’re back with just enough time to pick all the baseball bat sized zucchini in the garden, do some laundry, change the oil in the van’s generator, load up the sound gear and head out for a week of gigs in Massachusetts.

We start out the trip with the Serendipity Songwriters Session at Serendipity Cafe in Maynard, MA on Wednesday, August 8th. This month, we are joined by guest songwriters Eric Kilburn and Martin Swinger. The theme, chosen by July’s audience, is “It’s been longer since I’ve seen you, than I knew you.” Join us for a great meal, tasty dessert, an evening of amazing original music, and the opportunity to help us choose the theme for next month’s songwriters. Music runs 7:30-9:30pm.

On Thursday, August 9th, we’ll drop in at WICN-FM studios in Worcester, MA to chat with DJ Nick Noble live in studio on his weekly radio show, The Folk Revival. The show runs 7-11pm; not sure yet what time we’ll be on. If you’re in the Worcester area, you can listen live at 90.5FM, or you can stream live over the internet by going to https://www.wicn.org and click on “Listen Live Online”. Since we’ve moved to New Hampshire, we haven’t had as many opportunities to stop in to chat with Nick, and we’re looking forward to seeing him.

To continue a very busy musical week, we head over to the Unitarian Church of Marlboro & Hudson in Hudson, MA on Friday, August 10th as the August featured performer at SESSIONS. SESSIONS is an Open Mike, Songwriters Round Table, Invitational JAM and Occasional CoffeeHaus. Come listen to us, and join in on the open mike! Music starts at 7pm. This is a new open mike for us.

Another new open mike for us is the Appleseeds Coffeehouse at the Unitarian Universalist Area Church in Sherborn, MA. We’ll feature there on Saturday, August 11th. Music starts at 7pm. This one has been going for several years, but we only heard about it recently. Should be fun!

We close out our week’s tour of Massachusetts with a trip to the Acton/Boxboro Farmers Market in West Acton, MA on Sunday, August 12th. Lots of great produce, crafts, baked goods, and we provide the soundtrack. The market runs 10am-1pm. Stop by the market to pick up dinner makings, stay for the music! There are even chairs set up in front of the music tent for you to sit and relax a while.

Looking a bit further ahead, on Saturday, September 1st, the Keene Music Festival takes place in Keene, NH. We’re always incredibly grateful for all the great local venues that offer live music. The best way to support live local music is to support the venues that bring it to you.
