The Dream Journal – January 2019

Hello!

Happy new year! We hope that your new year started on a positive note. We started our new year with homemade blueberry pancakes, topped with local maple syrup. Anything that starts with homemade pancakes has to be good, right?

We’re starting off our musical new year on Thursday, January 3rd with a trip to the folk open mike at Amazing Things Arts Center in Framingham, MA, hosted by Dan Cloutier. We haven’t been to Amazing Things in a while, and we’ve missed all the great hooligans at the open mike! We’re happy to be back featuring at this welcoming place. Doors open at 7pm, music starts at 7:30. Come listen, come play!

Lots of new venues on our plate this month! On Thursday, January 17th, we’re headed just down the road to Bellows Falls, VT for Third Thursdays at Stage 33 Live. Stage 33 Live describes themselves as “the homegrown love child of Tiny Desk Concerts, Ted Talks, Science Friday, Midnight Special, and The Little Rascals.” Sounds cool already! There are short sets by other musicians starting at 6pm, and we go on around 7pm. Sounds like there may still be openings for the short sets; contact stage33@stage33live.com if you’d like to play.

We’re off to another new location for us on Saturday, January 19th, when we play at Thayers Inn in Littleton, NH. This iconic inn has hosted 5 former US presidents, innumerable politicians, celebrities and other dignitaries. We’ll be playing in the Olde English Pub 6:30-9pm. Come enjoy a meal, a pint, and a bit of music!

The Hearing Room in Lowell, MA is not a new location for us, but it is a favorite. We’ll be featuring at the Sunday, January 27th open mike, hosted by Aaron Tornberg, starting at 2pm. The Hearing Room is a funky arts venue with a great vibe and the most amazing juke box!

One last date for the month, and one more new venue. Gusto’s Bar in Barre, VT hosts acoustic music every Thursday and Friday night. We’ll be playing there on Thursday, January 31st from 5-7pm. Come check out their menu, and we’ll play for you.

We are pleased to note that Faith’s song, Come Again Another Day, won an Honorable Mention for the January/February American Songwriter Lyric Contest! The judges include some fairly big names in the songwriting world, and the other songwriters recognized come from across the US and around the world. The song will be featured on our next album, coming sometime in 2019.

Now that we’re past the holiday season and coming into full-blown winter here in New Hampshire, we often get folks asking us why we live here and not someplace warmer. Usually the folks asking are the sorts of folks who much prefer warmer winters than we have around here. Dan decided to answer that question with his song, Sweet New England. Enjoy!

Our CDs Seeking and Simple Grace are available from us at our shows, on our website, or you can find them at CD Baby, iTunes and most other online music stores.

As always, you can find additional schedule information on our website, https://www.danandfaith.com. For more frequent news updates and information, check out our Facebook fan page and follow us on Twitter (@danandfaith).

In this new year, a great resolution would be to find and support live local music wherever you find it.

The Dream Journal – December 2018

Hello!

It’s December already?? We’re not quite sure how that happened. Although we’ve been shoveling snow for several weeks now, so clearly Mother Nature thinks we’re getting on toward winter. Here in New Hampshire, a lot of the houses (including ours) have metal roofs. This is great in the winter, as snow doesn’t accumulate up there for very long before it all slides off. However, it can be quite startling when a huge pile of snow slides off the upper roof and lands on the porch roof with a bang! Thanks to a comment from a friend, we call those “roofalanches”.

We’re back at the Serendipity Songwriter Showcase at the Serendipity Cafe in Maynard, MA on Wednesday, December 12th. Our guest songwriters this month are Dan Tappan and Serendipity’s own Johnny Hobson. The theme for this month’s songwriters, as chosen by November’s audience, is “In Twenty Years”. Stop in, listen to great original music, eat tasty food, and help choose the prompt for February’s songwriters (no showcase in January). Music runs 7:30-9:30pm. Thanks again to Beth DeSombre for hosting last month!

It wouldn’t be the holiday season without The Folk Revival holiday show on WICN-FM, hosted by the delightful Nick Noble! Nick has invited a bunch of local musicians to join him for this annual treat on Thursday, December 13th from 6-10pm. We’ll join him in studio around 7:30pm. If you’re in the Worcester, MA area, tune in to listen at 90.5FM, otherwise go to https://www.wicn.org and click where it says “Listen Live ONLINE”.

Do you have book lovers on your holiday shopping list? Would you like a good meal and a bit of music to top off your book shopping? Shop at the Toadstool Bookshop in Keene, NH on Saturday, December 15th, enjoy a late lunch or decadent dessert at the Farm Cafe, and we’ll serenade you from 3-4:30pm. A great selection of books, amazing vegetarian/vegan food, and music? Even Scrooge would love that!

From ancient times, humans have celebrated the winter solstice as the day when the darkness turns toward light again.  Chase away darkness, join in our song!  You can listen to our song, Solstice, and join us in celebrating the return to light.

Our CDs Seeking and Simple Grace are available from us at our shows, on our website, or you can find them at CD Baby, iTunes and most other online music stores.

Thank you for supporting us, and supporting live local music throughout 2018. We wish you love, light and music for the new year!
