The Dream Journal – July 2016

Hello!

We’re sitting on the back porch this evening, on a rare Friday night at home. A thunderstorm has just passed through, and it’s still raining rather heavily. Last night at this time, we were being deafened by bullfrogs out here. Tonight, it’s the sound of the rain on the ground, in the leaves, gurgling through the gutters. Spring through fall, our back porch is the most heavily used room in the house. It’s our haven, our retreat, our connection to nature. Do you have a place like this in your life?

We start our musical month on Sunday, July 3rd in historic Concord, MA at the Old Manse, near the Old North Bridge (where The Shot Heard ‘Round The World was fired). We’re kicking off the Old Manse summer Sunday music series, along with Mark Mandeville & Raianne Richards. Mark & Raianne are fresh off their 2016 Massachusetts Walking Tour, so we’ll be nice and not make them walk too far. You can walk, drive, bike or kayak in, enjoy a picnic lunch on the grounds, and listen to an afternoon of duo harmonies. There may be a bit of collaboration, too! We’ll play 2-4pm. Many thanks to the Trustees Of Reservations for letting us present the Sunday music series at the Old Manse this year.

Unlike previous years, the Serendipity Songwriter Sessions is not taking the summer off! On Wednesday, July 13th, join Joanne Lurgio, Lisa Bastoni and guest host Beth DeSombre at Serendipity Cafe in Maynard MA. The song topic this month, chosen by the June audience, is “Startling Yawns”. Stop by, have dinner, enjoy some tasty baked goods, listen to wonderful original music by three great songwriters, and help choose the topic for August’s musicians. The music runs 7:30-9:30pm. And do thank Beth DeSombre for hosting in July! We’ll be back in August.

We have a very busy day on Saturday, July 23rd! We start the day at the Pepperell Farmers Market in Pepperell, MA. Lots of great farms in the Pepperell area, and we love playing at this market! Come shop for dinner or pick up crafts from the crafters, and stay to listen to some nice fresh folk music. The market is 9am-1pm, we play 10a-12p.

If you can’t make it up to Pepperell to hear us in the morning on Saturday, July 23rd, hopefully you can come to Serendipity Cafe in Maynard, MA that evening from 7:30-9:30pm, where we’ll be supplying the soundtrack to your dinner, dessert and coffee. Come see how much shorter our fingers will be after 4 hours of playing in one day!

We close out the month on Long Island on Saturday, July 30th at the Huntington Folk Festival in Huntington, NY. Since 2006, the Folk Music Society of Huntington has hosted a free, day-long festival at Huntington’s Heckscher Park featuring unplugged artist showcases and song swaps during the afternoon and an evening concert with nationally touring artists on the Chapin Rainbow Stage. The festival starts at noon with 6 hours of showcases and song swaps with more than 3 dozen artists. We will be playing in the “Mass Appeal” song swap with Steven Pelland around 2pm. The afternoon activities will be followed by the evening concert with Slaid Cleaves, and Kirsten Maxwell opening.

The Bolton Public Library Unplugged open mike is on its summer break. We’ll see you there again in the fall!

There is a lot of negativity in the world today.  Our philosophy is that everyone should be kind, and try to help.  We spread that philosophy through our music.  Please listen to and share our song, The Path You Choose.

Our CDs, Seeking, Simple Grace and Dreaming of Another Path, and our EP, Live At Roslindale, are available from us at our shows, on our website, or you can find them all at CD Baby, iTunes and most other online music stores. Seeking has been specially mastered for iTunes, which gives higher fidelity over standard iTunes recordings.

As always, you can find additional schedule information on our website, https://www.danandfaith.com. For more frequent news updates and information, check out our Facebook fan page and follow us on Twitter (@danandfaith).

The summer months are busy for everyone, but you should always make time for some local music.

The Dream Journal – June 2016

Hello!

Somehow we missed most of spring this year. When we left for the south, our leaves were barely out, and we were driving through sleet. When we got back, the leaves were completely leafed out, and it was 90 degrees. But we did get a sniff of Faith’s lilacs before they finished for the season!

We start the month off hosting the Serendipity Songwriter Sessions at Serendipity Cafe in Maynard, MA this Wednesday, June 8th. Music runs 7:30-9:30pm. This month, our guest songwriters are Sean Ryder and Carolyn Waters. Our theme this month, chosen by our May audience, is “Never-Ending Flight”. Come enjoy a great dinner, some decadent baked goods, and an evening of wonderful original music. And you get to help choose the theme for the July session! And yes, this year there will be a July session — more on that next month. The cafe opens their doors especially for us on these Wednesday evenings, so let’s show them how much we appreciate their support for local music!

For several weeks each summer, Mark Mandeville, Raianne Richards, Mark Kilianski and Amy Alvey get together and walk from town to town along a chosen Massachusetts trail, camping out and holding free concerts in each town they walk through. This is the seventh year of the Massachusetts Walking Tour. This year’s track is along Cape Cod and the South Coast Bike Way. The walking tour starts this year on Sunday, June 12th with a 7.9 mile hike from Provincetown to Truro, MA. We will be opening for the walkers that evening, along with Roland Blair, at the Highland House Museum in North Truro, MA. The concert will be 6-8pm. If you can’t make it out to Truro, do check out of one their other concerts between June 12th and 28th! See http://www.masswalkingtour.org/2016.html for their complete schedule.

On Wednesday, June 15th, we will be back at Main Streets Market & Cafe in Concord, MA as part of a trio of duos. We will share the evening with Crowes Pasture and Kirsten & Dave. Music runs 7:30-10:30pm. Main Streets has excellent food, a good selection of coffee & tea, a full bar, and the world’s most amazing fresh-squeezed lemonade. Stop in, have dinner, enjoy the wonderful harmonies!

The Bolton Public Library Unplugged open mike is coming up this month on Thursday, June 16th at the Bolton Public Library in Bolton, MA. All genres of music and spoken word are welcome. Got a song about June brides? A poem about June bugs? Or just looking for a great place to relax and enjoy the talents of excellent local performers? We do a formal two-song first round, and then pull the chairs into a circle and jam until we run out of songs, we run out of steam, or the cleaning crew runs us out! Open mike starts at 7pm. Piano players — if you’re interested in playing, contact us by 5pm that day (just respond to this message) and we’ll be sure to have a keyboard on hand.

We’re starting into 2016 farmers’ market season on Saturday, June 18th with a new market for us, in Brattleboro, VT. The Brattleboro Area Farmers’ Market is Southern Vermont’s premier farmers’ market featuring over 50 vendors with agricultural products, crafts, live music (that’s us!) and animals and ethnic foods from around the world. We’ll play 11am-1pm. Brattleboro’s a cool town, so do check out more than just the market!

We finish out the month at the Songwriters Showcase in Mt. Sinai, NY (233 N. Country Rd.) on Saturday, June 25th.  Each month, the showcase brings the highest quality artists and bands to play and to raise money for local charities like Brighter Tomorrows, a shelter for the victims of domestic violence, and Almost Home Animal Rescue. All the artists donate their time and talent. A $8 donation for one or $15 for two gets you two hours of music, free coffee, tea and snacks.  This month, the artists are EJ and the B-Side Band, Jenna Calandra, and us.  Music starts at 8pm.

As we come into summer, there is live music everywhere! Get out and find some!
