The Dream Journal — November 2016

Hello!

A few hardy fall leaves are clinging to the local trees, and our garden is surrendering its potato crop as we hardy New Englanders start to prep for the coming winter. But that doesn’t mean staying home and hibernating! Nothing warms chilly bones like good music.

We start the month with a blend of music and art. Gallery Sitka, in Shirley, MA, is featuring artist Den Poitras on Sunday, November 6th for Trash to Treasure, art made of found objects. We will be playing music as part of the event. Other local visual artists will also have their art on display, including some of Dan’s photography. The event runs 2-4pm, and includes refreshments. Gallery Sitka’s mission is to support the arts and provide a space for emerging artists to be seen and to have the experience of showing their work in a gallery style atmosphere. Come to view the art and listen for a while!

We celebrate the end of the election season with Serendipity Songwriters Session at Serendipity Cafe in Maynard, MA on Wednesday, November 9th. This month, we’re joined by New Hampshire musicians Charles Collins and Carl Beverly. The song topic this month, chosen by the October audience, is “One’s Earliest Memory”. Stop by, have dinner, enjoy some tasty baked goods, listen to wonderful original music by great songwriters, and help choose the topic for December’s musicians. The music runs 7:30-9:30pm.

Any of our musician friends attending the North East Regional Folk Alliance (NERFA) conference in Stamford, CT Thursday-Sunday November 10th-13th? We’re hosting the Dueling Duos showcase on Friday night from 11:45pm to 1:45am, and we’re playing in five showcases: Cup of Joe at 1:10am Thursday night, Twenty Oaks Presents at noon on Friday afternoon, our own Dueling Duos showcase at 12:45am Friday night, RISA at 1:45am Friday night, and the SAW Senate at 1:15am Saturday night. Hope we’ll see you there!

Our next session of the Bolton Public Library Unplugged open mike is at the Bolton Public Library in Bolton, MA on Tuesday, November 15th. It starts with a 2-song formal first round, then we pull the chairs into a circle and jam until we’re out of songs, out of steam, or tossed out by the cleaning crew! Got a new song about pumpkin pie? Want to share a poem about Grandma’s stuffing? Or just thankful for an opportunity to come listen to your talented local friends and neighbors? Stop by! Music starts at 7pm.

We finish out the month with a feature at the Roslindale Open Mike at the Roslindale Congregational Church in Roslindale, MA on Monday, November 28th. This is a great community open mike that’s so worth making the trek for. Doors open at 6pm, open mike starts at 7pm, and we’ll play around 8:30pm. Refreshments are free, with a donation basket that goes to the church to thank them for the space, and pass the hat for the feature.

As those last few leaves rustle down from the trees, we offer up Dan’s song, Falling Into Autumn Leaves for your listening (and downloading) pleasure.

Our CDs, Seeking and Simple Grace, are available from us at our shows, on our website, or you can find them all at CD Baby, iTunes and most other online music stores. Seeking has been specially mastered for iTunes, which gives higher fidelity over standard iTunes recordings.

As always, you can find additional schedule information on our website, https://www.danandfaith.com. For more frequent news updates and information, check out our Facebook fan page and follow us on Twitter (@danandfaith).

In these fractious times, smile, be kind to one another, support local businesses and local music. We need community more than ever.

The Dream Journal – October 2016

Hello!

We’ve just gotten home after an epic month on the road. We covered over 3800 miles in 27 days, played for new audiences in new places, and had a grand time doing it! We’re hoping to get back to many of these places again in the future, only hopefully next time we’ll have a bit of extra space in our calendar to explore the local area. But now, a quiet month at home after our road trip. No worries, though — there will still be music!

We’re looking forward to our next session of the Serendipity Songwriters Sessions at Serendipity Cafe in Maynard, MA on Wednesday, October 12th. This month, we’re joined by Molly Pinto Madigan and John Ferullo. The song topic this month, chosen by the September audience, is “Winds of Change”. Stop by, have dinner, enjoy some tasty baked goods (we missed Johnny’s baking last month!), listen to wonderful original music by great songwriters, and help choose the topic for November’s musicians. The music runs 7:30-9:30pm. Thanks again to Beth DeSombre for guest hosting for us last month!

One of the things we learned on the road is that having a place for local folks to get together and share music is a great way to strengthen the community. We are lucky to have the Bolton Public Library Unplugged open mike at the Bolton Public Library in Bolton, MA on Tuesday, October 18th. It starts with a 2-song formal first round, then we pull the chairs into a circle and jam until we’re out of songs, out of steam, or tossed out by the cleaning crew! Got a spooky new song you want to try out? Harvesting some delicious poems? Or just want to enjoy the talents of your local friends and neighbors? Stop by! Music starts at 7pm. And thanks to Roland Ochsenbein for hosting last month!

The coming of October signals that the 2016 farmers market season is drawing to a close. We’ll be playing at the Acton-Boxborough Farmers Market in West Acton, MA on Sunday, October 23rd. The market runs 10am-1pm; we play from 11am-12:30pm. Stop in, pick up produce for your dinner and winter squash for your pantry (they keep for months!), check out the local arts & crafts, and come listen as we serenade your shopping. This is the last week of the season for the ABFM, so this is your last chance!

Our CDs Seeking and Simple Grace are available from us at our shows, on our website, or you can find them all at CD Baby, iTunes and most other online music stores. Seeking has been specially mastered for iTunes, which gives higher fidelity over standard iTunes recordings.
