Hello!
We returned from a road trip of only a couple of weeks and found an entire wheelbarrow-full of baseball bat sized zucchini waiting for us! Oh, it can be dangerous leaving a garden unattended for a few weeks this time of year. The weeds, too, were incredibly healthy. It took us 3 days to pull them out and give our veggie plants some elbow room. But we now have six jars of refrigerator pickles marinating in the fridge, and the freezer now contains six meals worth of zucchini-based alfredo sauce (vegan!), as well as two bags of sliced zucchini, two bags of sliced yellow squash, and two bags of chopped broccoli. Our first cherry tomatoes are ripe, and our first brandywine tomato (large beefsteak variety, very flavorful) has been enjoyed. We’ve even had a couple of jalapeño peppers and a sweet bell pepper. Fortunately, we’re sticking a little closer to home for the month of August, so we can hopefully keep the garden under a bit better control!
The fun begins in Lawrence, MA on Friday, August 9th at One Broadway Collaborative with the Friday night Songwriters Series song swap. We’ll be swapping songs with Alex Sabau starting at 7:30pm Eastern time. You can come see us in person, or watch online. Tickets for either are $15, available here. For online, the video link will be supplied after you register at the ticket link.
And then we’re off to the fair! The Cornish Fair in Cornish, NH has been running since 1950. This year, the fair runs Friday, August 16th through Sunday, August 18th. The fair is a traditional family friendly, educational, agricultural fair. Fairgoers come from all over to see the fruits and vegetable exhibits, horse and oxen pulling, 4-H, crafts, children’s activities, live entertainment, vendors, amusement rides and more. On Sunday, August 18th, we’ll be playing on stage 11am-12:30pm. The fair itself opens at 7am Sunday and closes at 6pm. Entrance to the fair is $15 for adults, free for kids 12 and under.
The Acworth Village Store is a local gem right over the hill from us in South Acworth, NH. During the summer, the Store offers dinners for takeout or dine-in on Saturdays; if the weather is good, there’s music from local musicians to go with your dinner. We’ll be playing for the Summer Saturday Dinner out in back of the store on Saturday, August 24th from 5:30-7:30pm. Check the store’s Facebook page a few days before to see what the menu is for that night, and if the weather is iffy, check the page again that day. In case of rain, the food will still happen, but the music may be cancelled.
